Ebay weirdness
Jasper - 2/4/10 at 01:26 PM

I was after a neg/slide scanner, so I've had a good look on Amazon for the reviews and see which one to get, then had a look on Ebay for any secondhand ones going cheap.

The one I wanted was £139.99 from Amazon, with free delivery. I bid on one from Ebay, with no box or receipt, and guess how much it finally sold for? £121 +£8.50 delivery, just £10 less than a brand new guaranteed one.

Guess where I got mine.....

There are some very odd people out there, that's for sure.

There's been a few posts of ebay weirdness on here, and you will find stuff actually going for more than brand new in a lot of cases......

Ages ago i bought a midi computer tower and chopped off the aluminium fan guard for 17 quid.

As i fancied something bigger in the end, i got a new full size tower and sold that on ebay advertising it as modded etc and sold it for 31 quid.

Ebay is now a product of good marketing. Tell enough people its the place to get bargains and the majority will believe it.

I was on ebay very early on. I had to explain to people what ebay was back then and you could find really odd, weird rare items, the stuff you couldn't find in shops. And the occasional amazing bargain.
Now its 90% crap and junk at over inflated prices.

Basically its all about research you did yours and someone else didnt
I always look around for the best prices before buying anything
yes it may sound tight but I do get more for the little money i have to spend.

Some people don't have credit cards, but do have Paypal, be it with cash from their bank account or more likely, they've sold some stuff on eBay and have money burning a hole in their Paypal account

People get tunnel vision too...

I have been bidding one item and there are 2 or 3 the same finishing around the same time. Two bidders will have a bid ar over one item even though another identical one finishes 10 mins later for half the price! Auction madness!

Gone are the days of eBay bargains though

I'm not a big Ebay user but recently it seems to be overpopulated with Gypo's advertising things wrong and expecting stupid money. This might be because I mostly look at cars on there.

That said I went out to buy a game the other day and had the option of £35 new or £33 second hand, same edition of the game as well.
