Miserable Locost Owning Barstewards!!
Jumpy Guy - 17/1/06 at 10:17 PM

Much debate about the MCOB thread, so in the spirit of balance and equality-

I really hate them Locost building gits- them with their superior attitude -
" I knitted my car you know, it's SO much better than your purchased car"

and- "if you dont own your own smelt, then fabricate your own RHS, then you're a big jessie."

and people who have no intention of actually ever completing a car having endless discussions of IRS Vs. De Dion......

And most of them smell of engine oil and bacon rolls...

mookaloid - 17/1/06 at 10:18 PM

OMG what have i started now??

DarrenW - 17/1/06 at 10:19 PM

Yeah and then there are the ones who ram bike engines down your throat each time you mention anything at all........

Triton - 17/1/06 at 10:20 PM

It's a "rollover"

caber - 17/1/06 at 10:20 PM

Hmm never thought of making my own RHS though I have made my own angle . . . . by cutting up RHS does that count?

Caber ( miserable locost building bastard )

OX - 17/1/06 at 10:21 PM

lmao,,they cant all be that bad can they,i know a few who dont smell of bacon but even kit builders smell of oil

I'm glad you've admitted liability

Anyway what is the best IRS or De Dion?

hehe so would a locost builder with a bike engine in it be the scum of the earth

DarrenW - 17/1/06 at 10:24 PM

I love the oil / petrol / thinners / etc smell. Rally cars at a track on full chat is a particular favourite.

Im pleased im not a kit builder. Iam a developer / assembler of a specialist sports replica. Im probs more accurately described now as a Manager of continuous improvement.

yes mark - you have unleashed a Demon. Damn you....

mookaloid - 17/1/06 at 10:31 PM

Any advice for noobies reading this? Which kit, should they build their own chassis etc?

Just thought some one might like to offer an opinion?

Jumpy Guy - 17/1/06 at 10:40 PM

AND..... Locosters are backstabbing money grabbing types.

Those Locosters who pretend to be matey, then try to sell you any old toot they drag out the garage/make on the side at work-

Seats, Old Video Games, bent chassis bits, Seats, bent bits of old engine, Oh, and Seats!!

mangogrooveworkshop - 17/1/06 at 10:51 PM

Draw the line at producing your own steel? Pah, I even distill my own petrol from raw crude....lightweights....

raccoonradar - 17/1/06 at 11:18 PM

mine was made from iron ore dug from the hills and melted down on a BBQ in the back garden by stigg of the dump, just guessing cos i bought mine so i guess i am worse. pennys are hard to come by & its winter & money tree is a bit bare

DavidM - 17/1/06 at 11:34 PM

I put plastic bags over all of our houseplants at night, to collect the CO2 given off, for use as a shielding gas.

Oh, and I cut all of my chassis tubes by gnawing them with my teeth.

derf - 17/1/06 at 11:42 PM

I actually met my first caterham owner today (a rarity in the US). He walked into my office while I was looking at someones build page, then started to tell me about all these people that try and build them in their garages, but how they will never own the real thing. this didnt bother me as I really don't have a garage, but I showed him pictures of my build anyway, and challenged him to a race once i actually finish it (in 2011).

Kinda funny that this thread came up today

You must be a fairly laid back kind of chap then! I think I would have had to have lowered myself to his level with a bit more generalising: "Caterham owners have to pay stupid amounts of money for a very basic sports cars because they don't have the talent to build one themselves..."

jonbeedle - 18/1/06 at 01:41 AM

I made my rear suspension brackets out of an old iron fence post, the headlight brackets out of a discarded aluminium stand from work, my own P clips from off cuts of aluminium and rubber sheet, blah blah blah!
Just thought I'd throw in my two penny worth!
Cheers
Jon

Hey......you have forgotten the Live Axel

Deckman001 - 18/1/06 at 07:12 AM

True 'locosters' are miserable because it takes so much longer to build your car before you can drive it, compared to buying a box of bits and bolting it together in a couple of weeks !!

Jason

donut - 18/1/06 at 08:08 AM

They are also miserable bacause they have the skills to build their cars from scratch but end up spending all their spare time wiring other peoples 'kit' cars so they can get on the road before the locosters!

Eh Jason!!

Bah humbug (thought id add that to put a miserable tone in!)

David Jenkins - 18/1/06 at 08:51 AM

I suppose the Locost is the modern equivalent of a hair shirt - only true devotees of pain and discomfort would want one!

David

Bah humbug! (oops! too late!)

The more you feel the pain, misery and repeated bludgeoning of expectation with reality, the more you earn the right to drive.

and a freezing cold garage helps. Leave the doors open if its not cold enough, too.

My garage seems to warm up with the doors open!!! Ive just had to dig out a T-shirt with sleeves! Its getting bitter up North. Luckily still warm enough for shorts!
OOOpps- just realised i cant join in this conversation, ive not built a locost. Im like that imposter we are always looking out for, you know what i mean - like the ones who build a car then tarnish it with a funny little engine!!!!!

You mean you didn't make your own ore?!!! Heratic!!!!

smart51 - 18/1/06 at 02:15 PM

P.S. My car's better than yours.

smart51 - 18/1/06 at 02:17 PM

...and kit built BECs with IRS are the best. The rest of you just keep asking the question until you get the answer you want because of the time you've spent fabricating your inferior de dion CECs.

Nope, not yet! It's nice to read someone elses point of view - I've read books by John Robinson and john Bradley and they're all right!

Smashing......

p.s. Sylva.....

David Jenkins - 18/1/06 at 03:17 PM

Whenever I see 'Sylva' my brain says 'Sylvia' - she's a nice girl, Sylvia Stryker!

I hear RALLY DESIGN have got a new delivery of reverse units in for the BEC boys.....

Free tin off Kiwi included.

Liam - 18/1/06 at 05:13 PM

Losers!

If you cant even derive the necessary physics and chemistry from first principals, source and process your own materials, then design and build your own engine and all other parts and necessary tools, just go and buy a Toyota Corolla!!

I'm currently deriving calculus and some Newtonian physics with which i hope to understand the chemistry of combustion and how it might be used to provide useful force/torque. I hope to have a working engine within 10 years. By then I should have all the ore dug and processing equipment designed and built to continue with the rest of the car.

I can see the trickiest part being deriving the necessary maths and electromagnetism theory to design the starter motor and alternator, but I think it's fair enough to use my university notes as i did make them myself. Certainly no point asking you lot!

You all just carry on cutting up RHS with your expensive shop-bought hacksaws and buying in engines, hubs, calipers, etc, etc (which you all probably think grow on trees - bless). Ron Champion Locosters, Caterham Owners - all the same to me! Waste of space.

See you on the road one day! (that's if I'm walking on an adjacent pavement of course. I only plan to operate my car on my own hand laid road - once I've sucessfully developed my own tarmacadam from base materials).
