fuel sender help please!
I am trying to wire up this component, a fluid level switch:
It has three leads:
Blue: 0v
Red: +5v to +12v supply
Green: Output
My wiring loom has two leads:
Green/Black: Fuel tank sender
Black: Earth
I am using the original R1 bike clocks. So can somebody please tell me how to wire it up? At the moment I get the fuel sender error signal.
Thanks
James

You might not be able to. Looks like the dial is expecting a variable resistance and looks like you fluid level sensor has a variable voltage
output.....

The original R1 fuel pump has the level sensor. Why not use that?

The R1 clocks don't have a dial for the fuel level, just a light which comes on when the fuel drops to a certain level.

I have a 2000 R1 engine, and got the pump from a breakers - there doesn't seem to be any connections for a fuel sender. My haynes manual tells
me the sender is originally in the bike's fuel tank.

I have a 32 litre tank and my light comes on at 10 litres. What more info do you need?
I'm not using the clocks but I found out that using a neon indicator was no good as it lit with very low currents.
A lamp on the other hand will only appear bright enough when enough current flows.
You could try testing it with a 12v lamp on the output.
My R1 is an 05.

I want the low fuel light to come on the clocks when the fuel is at/below the level of the switch, so the setup is like yours.
At the moment the tacho needle swings from 0rpm to 8000rpm and the low fuel light flashes, which is showing the fuel sender is not connected.
I am sure someone on here had used one of these switches, for the life of me I can't remember who it is!

Aha! Ignore what I've said then. Should be possible to work out a way or rigging it....

isn't that sensor just an on/off switch? so when its eye is not covered in liquid, it switches to on? i would think you connect 0v to earth,
+5-12v to live, signal to a light on the dash, and the other side of the light to earth?
i think...

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!
