Running a switch for the fule pump on 99 R1?

Hello all, after a few hours diagnostics yesterday I have come to the conclusion the fuel pump relay is not working correctly (as well as the pump!). What is wrong with me wiring a switch from an ignition fused feed to the pump direct (bypassing the relay but still requiring the ignition to bo 'on'?

I have done this with many Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts I used to have but just wondered if it is any different for a BEC?

Thanks

Lee

As long as the switch is rated to carry the current for the pump it'll work. You just have to remember to switch it on. The relay is just an ignition triggered switch in effect anyway.

Why not just replace the relay though?

Confused me for a bit, but the R1 relay only runs for a few seconds on power up, but runs properly when cranking or engine is running, caught me out a few times when trying to prime the carbs.

Just tried it after what you said, and even with a voltmeter connected to the wires and then the ign turned on it still shows no voltage!
