Subject: Wiring help please

Hi, I've just bought a rev counter a rev counter off a friend and I'm trying to figure out what the connections are and also to see where I can purchase another couple of contacts that will fit in the plug socket allowing me to connect up pins 6 & 7 to be wired up. The model code on the rear of the tacho is EET3-1A32-04B Caterham Tacho 71253

1 Green = Main Beam (B)
2 Red / Blue = ECU Tach signal
3 Black / White = ShiftLight (A)
4 Black = Ground
5 Red / White = Backlight
6 Indicators LED (C)
7 Ignition LED (D)
8 Green = +12v Ign Live

A = Shiftlight
B = Blue? Highbeam
C = Green ? Indicators
D = Red? Ignition Light

Do my workings out look correct?

Hello Rich,
You've got all those spot on.
The only extra bits of info I'd add to assist you are are:
a. Main Beam and Indicator warning lights are 12 volt supply to bring on (i.e. pull-up)
b. Ignition w/l is pull-down to ground to illuminate
c. Shift w/l. I don't think Caterham ever used this function. It was designed to work off Rover EU3 ecu, where the ecu output quenched the warning light. A weird system I know, if you turn dil switch 1 (back of the gauge) ON, the light should come on if nothing is connected to pin 6. The Rover ecu took pin 6 to ground to turn the shift lamp off.
d. Ignition w/l wire colour should be light green/purple.
I'll send you some terminated flying leads in the post.
Regards,
Ian

If you're looking for a gauge maybe worth a look.

Just thought I'd add the images just in case it helps somebody else.

Cheers Rich

I totally agree with Richard about the service from CAI.

I bough a set of Revotec gauges (made by CAI) at the Autosport Show, 4 years passed passed before I fitted them. Unfortunately my tacho wasn't compatible with wasted spark ignition.

I phoned Revotec who put me in touch with CAI and they offered to re-work my tacho free of charge if I paid the postage.

Doesn't get much better than that.

Davie
