Ignition System Wiring Help Please

Hi People. I've done a search on here for the wiring and have found the included diagram.

I have the wiring taken from my "J" registered sierra 2.0 pinto donor but there seems to be an awful lot more wires than those on this enclosed diagram that go to the amplifier module.

All together I count about 15 (fading brain cell at work) wires going to the module? any idea what those are for?

Will it simply work if I only connect the wires indicated. I obviously don't want to "blow" the amp I've got.

Yes it's the carb version. I've not got the book... only the CD version from some kind soul on here. I never liked following the hanes manual wiring diagrams they always seemed over complicated.

well, the 2.0 OHC (SOHC?) has 24 wires to the module, the 2.0DOHC has about 11. So im guessing yours is SOHC? The book implies it should be DOHC after '90.

anyway, i can give you a brief summary of either if you want, to help work out which wires are surplus.

Yes please JoelP. It's the Pinto single overhead camshaft version first registered 1992.

Well, the book may be wrong then cos it says the SOHC was stopped in may '89. Should be close though. Numbers refer to terminal pins:

2 Bn Earth
14 Bn Earth
25 Bn Engine Temp sender
12 Bn/Gn ETS^
15 w/r )
3 w/v )
4 w/bk ) carb stepper motor
5 w/gn )
17 w/b )
18 w/y )
9 bk/y ) this one isnt connected by the looks of it...
24 bn/gn )
11 bn/r octane adjust but not connected
23 bn/b "
6 bn/gn to engine management relay XI
22 b/y idle adjust to earth
8 r/b to engine management relay M2
1 green to coil and tacho
13 bk, branches to supressor and EngManagRelay D
19 b/r to EMR D
10 bn/w, something to do with autos
7 bk/r to hall effect trigger
20 bn/y to ^
15 bn to ^

what a pisss about having that many wires... bet you wish you'd stuck to pedals now!!!

this was my advice to the last enquiry!

assuming you dont know this, if you do a search for stepper motor, much previous advice was to bin it. peteff know something about swapping it all over.
