spotlight main beam wire up

Trying to help a mate wire a pair of front spotlights on a L 200 pickup. The spots are connected to a relay, all wired ok leaving one connection to make into the main beam circuit to put the spots on.I have tested the relay and spots by putting the relay control wire to the battery spots work ok. We tryed to get the relay control from the front headlamp , but no joy ,3 wires to the headlamp bulb tryed them all wont work. Just one wire to connect can anyone offer any advice to get them working .thanks in advance

Does the L200 have a dim feature on the headlights? That sometimes plays games with wiring-up aux lights.

ETA.......if it does have the parky/running/dim light thing, there's a relay/control box to disable. Then you should have a full 12v to the main beam terminal.

Sorry. I'm not too sure where they are on the L200. I helped a chum to sort out his spots on his Pajero and a few days later another chum phoned me about his L200. I passed on the control box/relay info and he managed to find it on his L200.
