modifying headlight switch/inidcator stalk

Hi Guys,

Im thinking of a way to use my BMW indicator stalk with main beam and flash. The problem is that the main beam switch, isnt a simple switch, it has like 4 different wires so i assume it used some electrickery with the cpu on the car to control the headlights.

I want to used my stalk because it fits nicely into my column(beacuse theyre from the same car), and the indicators and flash are easy to wire.

My question is can i fit a small switch behing the stalk, so that when i flick the the stalk back, the stalk triggers the switch to control the main beam.

Is this possible? and what switch should i use?

Thanks
Mikkel

Not knowing the switch in question can you not just buzz out the connections to find out how it is wired internally and which contacts do what.
That way you can use it as its ment to be used?

you may require relays as I doubt the switch will be up to it but would make life a lot easier.

What make/model of car does it come from?

Do you have a haynes manual for the car they sometimes show internal switch connections.

its a bmw E36.

I have a haynes manual but i dont think it shows any of the internal connections.
It does have a wiring diagram, so i can see what that says, but not sure what i can see on it.

Anyone know what sort of connections i might find?

What sort of thing could i get?
