starter button questions

Is there anything in IVA regarding how you can start the car? I want to have both the key and the push button. So you have to turn the key, then push the button. So both must be done to start the car.

Just as a bit of extra security so its not just the obvious of how to start it.

Cheers
Mikkel

thats fine, as long as you have 2 methods of security. key is one, button isn't, so maybe add a transponder type immobiliser? thats what i'm gonna do

haha yeh the button is purely because its cool
The buttons got a light on it, so im going to wire it so that the light comes on on the button when the key is turned, then press the button for engine start

Yeh im going to have the steering lock as one form of security, and possibly one of those RFID tags or similar as another.

ah, cool you'll be well sorted.
not this one is it?

i got that one. thinking of wiring the light up to the battery light, so lights up when you turn the ignition on, goes off when the engines running
don't know yet if that will cause the charge light circuit any problems though

Yep, thats about how I did it. However I made use of a function of the donor vehicle wiring loom (Granada), it had all the wiring on it for an auto box going right back to the fuse/relay box. Straight out of the donor it had a bridge connection across where the relay should have been for the auto box inhibitor switch. All I had to do was get a ford relay, then run the inhibitor switch wiring to the instrument/switch panel instead of the geabox (it aint NEVER going to have an auto box). Then to start turn key to original starting point and hold, then press button to start and release both when running. JD

Oh and the start button is one of those nice big Savage switches.

Nice one, ill do that then, i know once i get it working though ill be sat for ages just turning the key to watch the red light come on haha!

yep i got one of them Blake, should do the job,

It is a bit bit wierdly made thought! You have to take the switch part of it off to get to the screw to get a wire in for the illumination, rather strange but hey ho!
