Converting top mount fuel sender to side mount

I've managed to pick up a new sender for my tank, but I from looking at the swing on the float it's a top mount one, and my tank has a nice big hole in the side.
Is it just a case of bending the arm for the float to convert it to side mount?

Mock it up and bend the arm accordingly.
