Odd behaviour.
I have an electric/electronic fuel pressure gauge. Works off same sort of sender that looks identical to my VDO oil pressure gauge.
For the last three months it constantly cycles through its opening display and instantly switches itself off then on again, cycles, etc. Never gets to
do anything useful and is irritating at night when the light is on off on off.
While putting it in the garage last night, idling on the drive, headlights on, it started to work fine. If I revved the engine or switched the
headlights off it immediately misbehaved again. Return to tickover and headlights on and the gauge is stable and indicating 3bar.
Can it have become oversensitive to voltage rises?
Voltmeter only showed 14v and is stable but may not be sensitive enough to show brief spikes in voltage. I only have a racing battery. Might this not
work well enough as a voltage dampener like a big lead acid battery does?
Or does it suggest the voltage regulator in the instrument is fubared?
Or any other suggestions?

Good question! Answer is yes. Six gauges share the dash earth which is daisy chained round them all and a couple of the warning lights with earthing
to the body at both ends. There is also a daisy chained supply to them all, fed from only one end.
The VDO speedo also plays up, registering accurately for the first 10 minutes or so of a journey and then reading about 20% low for as long as the
drive lasts.
