Bike Electronics: Can you increase cable lengths?
Hi All
I want to add an inch or two of length (steady, stay with me!) to several connectors on the bike loom for my Megablade. The previous setup had little
room for movement and looked messy, so I want to tidy things up.
Plan was to increase the length of the individual strands by soldering then heat shrink wrapping them back up, then finishing it all off with loom
tape…
My main concern is- will this impact the normal operation of the engine/electronics? Someone has told me that the pulses are set for the length of
cable and, while this may be a miniscule amount of time added, it may impact the normal operation at the higher revs… My thoughts are that the ECU
would determine this when it first started up again, but I've really no idea if this is correct or not, hence why I wanted to ask everyone
here…
Can anyone advise whether it's do-able?

i had a widdow maker and had issues when i extended a few cables due to changing the resistance of the electrics. i found removing the whole wiring
and replacing with full new wire (same thickness) worked better.
some bikes ecu will measure resistance so may cause error messages.
unsure if yours would but better to be safe than sorry.

well ive done it
i cant tell you it works yet as I havent tested
but ive just extended where needed.
I plan to build a loom from scratch eventually, trying to source some Busa ECU connectors at the moment

I extended most of the original loom on my ZX9 by soldering lengths on and had no issues.

I'm using the same engine in mine, so that's good to hear. Did you remove the Exhaust Butterfly Valve Actuator unit, too? I've been
told you can remove it if you're not using the original bike clocks. If you did, did you just unplug it or cut everything out of the loom?
