What diode and where to get one?
What diode should i fit too prevent the alternator frying agian, the wire from the charge light is back feeding to the alternator??
The problem is the bright6 unit, its wired correctly but sends 12.5v down the charge light wire too the alternator

Not sure that you need a zener diode like that one - more like one of these
ordinary rectifier diodes, physically robust and will take around 6A, which is more than enough.

Sorry, but you don't want a zener diode , that for voltage regulation.
If its just to stop backfeed then you just need an ordinary diode.
I think that a 1N4001 1A will do it.
I can probably post you one of those, if thats whats required.

Hi Guys
Is this a common problem with Bright 6's? I'm just in the process of fitting one to my Elan and want to get it right!

If you got a spare, that would be great, Mapins is about 1hr round trip on a good day and im at work all this week, would like too go to the kit car
club on wed evening but not risking damaging my new alternator for a 24p part

Do i need a In4001 or a In4003 ??
and its the white striped end of the diode(cathode) towards the bulb and the anode too the alternator (ie diode pointing away from alt) ??

Either will do - the only difference is current rating. Personally I'd go for a 4002 or 4003, but I'm sure that a 4001 would work just as
well.
Can't give you any help on which way round to wire it in - I didn't need one when fitting a Bright-6 to my car!

Your wiring loom didnt come from guy who made mine, no diagram with it and colours change front to back ie green at front is fuel pump but its pink at
connector. . Wish I had a proper wiring diagram.
