Speed Sensor
Hi Guys,
I need to get a magnetic speed sensor sorted out for my kit.
Problem is i'm struggling to actually find one.
Any ideas where i should be looking and how much they go for?

that should do for just about every electronic gauge
or burton sell one that goes in the type9 gearbox for electronic gauges, think it work s out to about £50 once the sensor, the gearbox adapter, vat
and post are added up

I have made my own magnetic speed sensor for my car, you need a strong magnet (button type) and an easy source for these is the cheap pick up tools
from markets, and a mico reed switch, these are available from Maplins for 20p or so. The double acting switches are the most reliable in my
experience, and you need to select the normally open terminal. Contrary to what seems most likely these switches work best if they are presented to
the magnet "end" on and not parallel to it. you will need a non magnetic housing to put it in and to secure it to the car, the magnet
needs fixing to your wheel some where (i use the rear of the hub) when bending the reed switch legs use needle nose pliers as the glass case they are
fitted into is very fragile and they break easily. Use and epoxy glue to secure the reed switch into a suitable holder (or a good alternative is
silicone sealant)
the sensor has been very reliable in use and works very well.
sometimes you are the pigeon, most of the time the statue.
