Headlight and main beam switch Q

Thought for the evening -

I've got my BMW mini switch pack ready to install, and as I've got no stalk controls, will be running all control (bar indicators and hazards) of electrics from the dash. From right to left, I'm having side lights, main lights, full beam, rear fogs, then a spare, and lastly a switch for a spare power socket.

Now I know the rulings re. fog light only be able to switch on with main lights, but a friend of mine told me this eve that he'd "never driven a car where the full beam couldn't be switched on & off without taking hands off the steering wheel".

It got me thinking, is my setup going to be a) IVA compliant, and b) easy to use? I'm less concerned about the latter as I know where the switches will all be, but just checking it's all going to get me going.....

Anyone care to enlighten me, or at least shed some light?

it'll be fine for IVA and will be easy enough to use. i'd love to see how your mate turns the lights on, on a car where you have to twist the end of the stalk, without taking his hand off the wheel.
bearing in mind you have to take your hand off the wheel to change gear, its not really a problem. if you can change gear without crashing, you can flick a switch without crashing too

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

the biggest problem is reaching them with a harness on. its easy to reach the steering wheel, but the dash is difficult when strapped in!

Unless your mate has built a kit or been through IVA I would discard his views.

i had switches on the dash, its ok for stuff you don't need in a hurry, but was really hard work for the headlights, i used a 3 way rocker switch, and swapping between main and dipped on country roads was a total pita now have that to turn on the lights, and a new switch on the back of the paddles to change between main and dipped, much better to use
