dash layout/IVA
I am about to start with deciding where to put my digidash/warning lights/switches Etc on my dash.
Are there any points to consider/requirements for IVA?
or can i put them whereever i like, aslong as they are reachable/viewable?
My current plan is digidash (acewell 3252) in the middle of the dash, warning lights above, and switches below.
does this sound ok?
cheers for any help.

Personally I went to a hell of a lot of effort to get the speedo, rev gauge and Bright 6 behind the steering wheel so they could be seen easily and
quickly whilst driving.
Maybe it's personal preference but I hate the idea of having the speedo off to the side and having to move my head each time I check it at the
next speed scamera!
Cheers,
James

Allthough I will be putting mine behind the wheel, I have always wondered if theres much difference between glancing down 10 inches or glancing
diagonally down a few inches more?! I think if you were used to it there it would become natural. I dont think anyone could say they can sight their
speedo peripherally, so there shouldnt be much difference. They only thing I would want closer to line of sight is warning lights and a shift light,
so maybe those behind the wheel for those moments when you dont care about speed, but may care about causing engine damage or having no brakes!

But back to the OPs original question, there is an exempt area behind the wheel (check the manual for full details) where items only need to be
blunted and not have the 2.5mm radi, so choose your switches, lights and dials carefully if they are not to be behind this area.

The only restrictions are that the speedo and required warning lights and the switches operable are visable from the driving position. All switches
have to be maked with there use. Brake warning, rear fog and hazard lightsmust have the correct symbol ON the illuminated surface (not sure about the
rest). Speedo must be marked in MPH and not switchable to KPH (easily) and must be illuminated with the lights on.
It's worth bearing in mind the exempt area; Everything to the right of the steering wheel and wheel plus 127mm radius from its rim to the left.

How sure are you about this? I thought the same until I saw a bit in the 'Car Builders Solutions' catalogue which says this only applies
to cars with roofs.

Just put stuff where you can see it. Like others I went to a lot of hassle with dash choice and layout so I can see stuff with ease while driving.
Its your car so tailor the whole lot to yourself.

Dont rely too much on the info in magazines, shops etc etc. Half of them still quote SVA compliance, which doesnt even existin any more!
I can see no wording in the current IVA manual that substantiates their windscreen required comment.

Good to know. I couldn't see any reason why you'd suddenly be able to ram your head into the area behind the wheel just because
you'd taken the roof off.

Iv e just read the CBS manual and the IVA again and realised how they came to the conclusion.
The IVA states 'Where a vehicle is not fitted with a hood/roof.....Other areas of the vehicle are considered to be "exterior"
including the area to the rear of the specified zone.'
However this is the 'REAR' exempt area that is behind the seats in ANNEX 2. However I would want clarification from an IVA inspector
before I am quoted on the above!!
