Start stop button wiring?

Anyone got a wiring diagram to use a start button as a stop button once the motor is running aka Honda Civic?

Is it as simple as using a relay and the charge light circuit???

It would depend on what your start button does?
I guess you still have ignition key or another switch turned to on and then just use the button to spin the starter motor as long as needed to start it?

Whereas the production cars I have driven will have a load of cleverness translating a single press on the button into spinning the starter long enough until the engine starts under the correct conditions (clutch,gear etc) and then again translating the next press into shutting evrything down nicely.

I expect it can be done but you may find it more troublesonme that you expect

I was thinking along the lines of doing away with the ignition switch and using a remote on off, then the button to start stop the motor.

What would be wrong with your new "remote on off" then, surely that would stop it the same as the ignition key?
Is it just "button cool " that is being sought

A friend of mine has a fancy alarm system on his evo, that allows him to start the engine using his key fob. I guess anything is possible if you have the ingenuity and cash.

I believe he already has one of those fancy alarms but had an incident with it so disabled it Quite happy to spill the beans but the story would sound far better coming 1st hand.

Yes I've done it on mine, using a single push button switch, 1 latching relay and a 2 second time delay relay to crank the starter if the button is held for more than 2 seconds.

So 1 press of the button for less than 2 seconds just turns on the ignition, a second press turns it off. But if you press and hold the button for longer than 2 seconds the starter will crank until you release the button. Then another quick press will turn it off.

I have also fitted a RFID box which only activates the ignition if the key fob is within range. This means I don't have a seperate ignition key switch as well, just the single button which is only active with the key fob is in my pocket.
