what have i done?

hello all,

just re trimmed the dash, put everything back together again, only to discover that two of the guages, temp and fuel arent right. Fuel reads totally empty (but its always been backwards) and temp reads at about 130 pretty much as soon as you turn the key.

its a faff to take off/put back on and just wanted a clue as to what to look for when i pull the thing apart again tonight.

(did i mention i hate all things wiring)

Cheers

paul

connected the temp sender to fuel gauge, and fuel sender to temp gauge?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Disconnect the wire at the other end, and do a continuity check with a meter, to check you have the correct wire to the instrument (ie one step further than the above post.

Also have you reconnected the earths?

EDIT:
Also if you have a stabilised voltage supply for the instruments, check this is working properly.

Did you reconnect the wires correctly on the back of the gauges?? The fuel gauge reading backwards is probably the fuel sender assembled incorrectly if you are using a Greengauges sender. I had a similar problem when I first built the car and found the instructions on the Greengauges website to be incorrect. If you can remove the sender unit it's easy to test using a multimeter attach the leads , one to signal connector and the other to the baseplate of the sender and read the resistance with the lever up init's highest position and in it's lowest, the lowest should have the least amount of resistance. IIRC it was easy to turn the resistor pack over but recalibrating the gauge to read correctly took a few attempts. Other sender units may be similar?
