another Saturday drive, another problem to test me.

Out for a little early morning blast and my digidash starts behaving a little odd.

The displayed revs are spiking,

for example, driving along at 7k rpm and suddenly the rev counter jumps to 13k then straight back to 7k rpm.
seems to happen more frequent if you jump on the loud pedal but does happen occasionaly if your just cruising along,
As said 7k rpm is just an example, it happens at all rev ranges and can spike to any random number,

the tacho feed is taken from a coil. the coils are mounted ontop of the engine

r1 engined car.

anyone have any ideas?

My rev counter did that when I had a dodgy 12v feed to it.

Noise, run the tacho pickup in co-ax wire, only earth the shield at one end.

Ditto what Mark said, also the coils are quite a rough signal, can you not use the dedicated tacho out from the ecu?

Andy

Thanks guys.

I'll get onto it straight away.

Andy. I would prefer to use the cdi output but it causes the rev counter to display an exup fault every 3 seconds.
