wiring question.

Hi all,

Im just testing a couple of wiring bits and my flashers and side lights work fine. Just onto dip and main now, but here is my problem.

I was testing where switched and perm live are with my meter, and I have one end connected to the red wire on ignotion switch. The other lead touched the column mounting bolt and I got a tone, meaning connection? So why would my main ignition switch live have continuity with the coloum mount where my earth leads are mounted?

Or is it because my earth is there that Im getting continuity?

I have now for your reference, posted a public reply to every one on my last post. I do hope this now allows me to ask another question and get an answer from some one more helpful than o bucket of pig sh!t

I must remember to thank every one as I am now aware that if I dont I will not be allowed to ask another question again. OK I should have posted up a reply, but unlike you I have other things to do other than check up on peoples posts and reply's like some kind of forum police.

If you dont have anything positive to reply to my posts then just dont bother.

I would disconnect the red wire from the switch and test both the wire and switch to see if you get another bleep. This will tell you which one is causing the earth fault.

Could be a problem with the switch or trapped wire somewhere.

Is this the main live back to the battery? It will most probably connect to your permanent live fuse box too, You could be getting a reading through a piece of kit - maybe a lamp so you may need to pull your permanently on fuses out too to check.

Just an update. I was being a dope! Connected the 4 wires that I had failed to connect and bingo, side lights, dipped beam, main beam. All working as they should!!

Just one point, I have soldered all my connections and then insulated. Is this the best way or should I use bullet type connectors?
