Starter motor problem

Hi all I wired up my starter motor today thanks for the help yesterday :-)
(zetec blacktop, type 9,1.8 zetec flywheel and lrs 707 starter.
When I Press the start button the started swings into life but does not engage,I removed the starter from the bellhousing and tried it
It's spinning up fine but not throwing the cog out,the cog can be moved in and out with a screwdriver so it's not stuck, any ideas?
This is how I have it wired atm

I'm confident it's wired properly so a problem with my new starter?

i would think your black and blue wire to the small terminal if that is from the ign switch

the small terminal throws it out

Agree with Jamster youve wired the switched ign live to the main terminal on the starter and not the solenoid connection which is why its not moving the 'cog' forward.

Agree, the blue wire needs to go on the terminal which currently has no wires on it.

Yep, its not throwing the cog forward as no power to solenoid by the looks of it.

We made a similar error when wiring up.

Yes.

I'd also check the blue/black wire for any damage. Putting the starter current through there isn't recommended

one of the posts has a little feed wire running into the motor.

If I remember right, this is the one that has no other wire going to it, so yes, stick the black and blue on the other post and you should be good to go.

Put your switched power source onto the
terminal that has an m6 thread on it.that pole energises the solenoid
and engages the bendix with the ring gear.
