Horn to column wiring

Does anyone have any photos of how to connect a horn push button (in the centre of the wheel) to the horn wiring in the column? I know this is a bit of a vague question but basically I have 2 wires coming off the switch and I don't know what to do with them, any info would be helpful!

if it's a sierra column, you need the brass ring bit out of the back of the steering wheel which makes a sliding contact with the spring loaded bit on the column itself.
the two wires attach to the brass ring bit.

Hi, yeah it is the sierra column. Surely if you attach both wires to the brass ring the current will just flow from one wire, through the ring, into the other, bypassing the switch and giving a constant feed to the horn? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Brass ring is split into two. There are two carbon bush type fingers that contact onto it... Therefore enabling the normally open contacts on the switch to sound the horn when closed!

As mentioned brass ring is on wheel finger are on column. Two wire to fingers through brass ring to switch.

Cheers

As SeaBass says, it is actually 2 rings in a plastic 'frame' I had some fun mounting mine in the aftermarket hub - it didn't reach the contacts on the column so had to do some mods to make it work. it's ok now though

Hi Pete,

I have just been wiring my horn up, but I used the windscreen washer push switch on the end of the Sierra wiper stalk. I'm not planning on fitting any windscreen washer jets (or wipers) so the stalk is redundant anyway. Also I am planning to change the bulky Sierra steering wheel for something smaller after SVA so would lose the horn centre push as well. It's easy to wire up using a relay to protect the switch in the stalk. IMHO it makes a very neat solution and works well.

Hope this makes sense, let me know if you want more info.

Nick

Thanks Nick, I've actually got it working now on the centre button. Not sure if you realise but you can buy smaller wheels with centre push horns, mine is a 13" (I think) Mountney wheel from MAC1, and the horn came from them as well. You have to keep the sierra ring to make contact with the column contacts though, so make sure you don't throw it away when you get rid of the sierra wheel!
