etb speedo set up
hi all
first of all happy new year
i need to calibrate my etb gauge, however instructions state i have to drive car for a mile to do this. the car is not road legal yet and dont wish to
be caught on roads just yet.
the manual also states you can enter a "Pulse/distance ratio"
does anyone know what this figure is?
car is using sierra running gear with 1.8 cvh engine if it makes a differnece

can't you do it in the software? You should be able to put your wheel size in and it does the rest.

With mine (also etc) you rolled the wheel a couple or several times, measured the distance and divided by the number of revs (to give accurate wheel
circumference. Take this number, times it by the number of magnets on driveshaft then check this off against a huge spreadsheet that was on the etb
website, and enter the code onto the back of the speedo unit.
This was about 6 years ago, so things may have changed and all I've said will be of no help whatsoever

first off you need to know how many times your wheel turns in one mile
some tyres manufacturers will quote a revs/mile or rolling circumference - but you can check it by marking the tyre rolling the car forward/backward
as many full turns as you have space for then measure the distance its moved.
The next bit depends on where and how the sensor is setup…
e.g. If your sensor is pointing at the 6 bolts on your driveshaft (assuming you have any) and your tyres turn 820 times in a mile then that’s: 6 x 820
= 4920 pulses per mile
but if your sensor points at the 4 magnets or bolts on the propshaft them you need to allow for the diff ratio so that would be 820 x 4 (bolts) x 3.92
(diff ratio) = 12857.6 pulses per mile
If your using the sensor in the gearbox then you'll need to find out how many pulses it produces per rev of the propshaft, say 10 pulses per
turn of the prop x 3.92 (diff ratio) x 820 = 32144 pulses per mile
(someone correct me if that’s wrong - I'm not really awake yet this morning….)
There should be a note in the setup instructions telling you to round it so that it over reads slightly (rather than under reads) - i.e. your allowed
to have a speedo that says your going 60mph when its really only going 57mph, but not say 60mph when your actually going 62mph

all sounds bit more complicated than i was hopinf for but will give it a try.
there is no way of entering info into program.
i have 2 magnets on prop so i take it i multiply the figure by 2?

Its a bit awkward to use as it seems you have to scroll around a bit but:

just tried that but it appears its for the digidash.
mine are like the old style dials with needles on

I phoned ETB. Told them gearbox, diff ratio and tyre size. They told me the number to plug into the gauge. Took about 3 minutes including the call.

i rang them and they said they didnt give figures because there was so many different options, even though i had diff figures etc.
do you know what department you rang

Department? They're a bit small for that aren't they? I got the feeling I was very much phoning a one-man-band type operation when I spoke
to them.
TBH, it was quite a long time ago so maybe policy has changed. Shame, as they were super helpful with me over that and a few other issues.
