Ford switchgear with switched live?
After many hours trying to get my lights working I've just realized that my Sierra switchgear is switched earth and my wiring loom is setup for
switched live...
Is there suitable ford switchgear which works off switched lives?
Cheers
Andy

The early Sierra switch gear was switched live, as was mk 3 escort switch gear from the same era I think it changed in the mid 80s to switched
earth.

not a lot of hassle to use either, just power everything with relays and have the earth switching via the stalks , relays are very very simple to fit
and use....

How would you do that with a relay though?
The relays have 3 inputs which are all live, and 1 output.
My lights then have 3 inputs (side, dip, main) and 1 earth.

3 relays......
relay 1 pin 30 to live feed from fused supply for sides,
link a wire from pin 30 to pin 85 (no need to fuse) connect pin 86 to the sides wire in column switch,
pin 87 to side lights..
Relay 2 as above but connect 86 to dip beam wire on switch and 87 to dips and pin 30 to dip fuse
relay3 as above but connect 86 to main beam wire on switch and 87 to main beams and pin 30 to main beam fuse....
current draw by the switch on steering column is very small so they do not need fuses to these connections and a short circuit on these wires will
only result in the individual lights coming on permanently.
switching the lights on via the earthing of the relays will work fine

this should help you.....(obviously put the lights that suit in for the fog lights shown..;-)
obviously you want the top one of the two shown here.....oh and make sure the earth on the switch is a good connection as all your relays will earth
through it! a dodgy earth here will lead to all sorts of weird problems.

Thanks for the help!
Turns out I was being a plum and got all my earths wrong and didn't even wire one of them up!
All now sorted, plus I've just about learned about relays now!!
