Smiths speed sensor

Speedo stopped working and I have an idea that the sensor located at the front wheel is at fault, but how do I test it, before I go out and spend a fortune on a new one.

There is a little yellow light constantly on at the rear of the sensor, I have had it off and the light goes off, and when I pass it very fast back and forth over a small section of the chassis it flashes and the needle on he speedo moves, which indicates it is working, but when I put the sensor back in position on its bracket located near the hub,the little light stays on and the when I spin the wheel nothing happens.

Is it the sensor earthing out on the bracket or is the air cap at fault, i have tried moving the sensor to test the gap,I am led to believe that the sensor is at fault?

Please help, if the sensor is at fault anyone know where ip get one?

Your advice and help is much appreciated.

It just stopped working whilst on a run out.......

Regards a very jangled locoster.....
