starter and alt cutoff wiring
just a quick question
do you have to have the starter motor and alternator on the cut off side of the switch or can they be live to the battery all the time?
dont want to have a drain on the battery thats all

Usually one one or two reasons to fit an isolator switch.
1) Isolate battery during layoff periods to eliminate ECU, instrument and alarm cct drain currents (no kill cct)
2) FIA kill switch
I have just fitted a Kill switch and as such it has alternator excessive voltage generation protection contacts.
In both cases it isolates the battery completely. In case 2) it puts a low value resistor across the alternator in the off position. This eliminates
high voltages from the alternator when switched off sudenly. It simultaneously isolates the coil pack.
I don't know if this is the answer to what you asked but it is sort of relevant.
