oil pressure with 5v out
hi,
anyone know where to get oil pressure sensor that has 5v output?
so we can use it with data logger
ive seen the RT ones but there quite alot wandered if there was a more locost solution?!

Temperature sensors, in the main, are totally passive negitive temperature coeficient resistor (connected to ground). The one that drives my coolant
tempearture gauge is a 400 (ohm) at 20deg C and about a hundred ohms at 80deg C. If you want a 5V output all you do is connect a resistor to 12V or 5V
and you have whatever voltage you calculate the potential divider created by the two resistors dictate. What voltage range do you want?

Sorry the same applies to pressure sensors they are in the main purely resistive.

Between 0-5v
We have a vdo sensor in the engine, for pressure how do you calculate the conversion? Is it a case of recording it outage at set pressures or can the
data by found online, I've had a quick look couldn't find anything

The easiest way is to insert a 'T' piece and borrow an in line pressure meter from something or buy s/h off ebay. Then calibrate your
sensor in terms of resistance vs pressure. Now generating steady increments in pressure, now that is the tricky bit. I have no immediate answer for
you but I am sure another clever cloggs will supply that bit. I believe a ram pump would do the trick they usually have built in meters. Then
calculate the series resistance using ohms law (see Wiki).

Ok thank you,
Might end up taking the easy route out and just buying the rt sensor as it comes ready for the job along with the reference chart
