Wiper washer wiring help

Hi all.
Just trying to wire up windscreen wipers and washers. Managed to get wipers wired and they appear to work fine. The washers I am struggling with. The washer has 2 wires and I want to wire up to sierra switch. (From a j plate if it makes a difference)
There are 2 wires from the switches which say wiper feed 53c and wiper return. Tried connecting to these and nothing.
Thought the washers would be simple! Anyone care to assist?
Complete numpty at wiring incase this isn't obvious
Thanks
Steve

I had the same issue, the 2 speed wipers were fine but i couldnt find the connections for the push button at the end of the stalk to control the washers. After trying every combination of wires twice with a multimeter i eventually gave up and just fitted a seperate toggle switch in the area between the column binacle and the dash.

In my case I suspect the reason was that the stalk and it's connector were from different sources and of course sod's law says one part must have originated from an early car and the other must be from a later car. Although the actual layout of the pins looks the same between the early and later Sierra stalks the way they are actually wired is different and I'd guess the pins for the washer button on the stalk lined up with a blank on the connector.

On my stalks I used the connectors marked

Rs53C Green/Black wire (provides washer pump supply)
Rs54 Green wire

Positive supply to Rs53C, take the wire from Rs54 to the pump, connect the other terminal on the pump to ground. Job done. Although there are lots of different stalks flying around.

So are you saying I should connect a positive supply to pin 53c? If I attach a ignition live wire to this pin, will it work

put a multimeter across wiper feed and return.

If the resistance goes to zero when you press the button then it's a simple switch...

Thanks. Will try that. If it does go to zero, then what do I need to do to make it work? Or if it doesn't go to zero, what does that mean?
As I say, electrickery isn't my favourite subject on cars
