Help! Side lights problem!
Hi all, yet more problems..........
Tonight I set myself the supposedly simple task of wiring up my new dominator headlights, simple task or so I thought!!!!
Whilst wiring them up it took a few different go's at getting them to work correctly and it appears I've caused another problem in the
process. Basically the side lights now don't work at all on the passenger side of the car, and the illumination for the light switches on the
dash has stopped working also?????
The dash has the side lights, dipped beam and main beam savage switches on it. Indicators, hazard lights and engine start button are all on the centre
column. Normally I would press the side light switch on the dash (with the ignition off) and all switches would illuminate and all side lights would
come on. What happens now is that I press the side light switch and A. Only the switches on the centre console light up and B. only the side lights on
the drivers side of the car work. All other lights are working fine, it's only an issue with the side lights and dash illumination.
I have checked for voltage on the front side lights both sides of the car. The drivers side is getting 12v when switched but the passenger side is
getting 0v? I've also checked the side light switch and it appears to be working okay and the bulb for illumination is fine.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Gary

Have you checked your fuses, sounds like you may have blown one.

Have you wired the earth in the dominators as a live on the side light circuit? It is a common earth for the headlights and a bench test would make it
look like they were working fine.
Also if your using twin head lights you cannot have them wired up as twin dips your only allowed one dip and two mains each side unless your car is as
old as mine that is......

Ive checked all the fuses( there inly is about 6 of them) and they all are okay. I wouldnt have thought it was a fuse, if it was only one side of the
car not lighting up, well i hope not anyway!
Ive now disconnected the headlights so the loom in the car is as it was. When i switch the side lights on, im still getting the same fault, no
lighting to the passenger side and no illumination of the dash switches. This rules out the way ive wired the headlights and means the fault is
definately in the car side somewhere.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Where does the power for the savage switches illumination come from?
Cheers for any help guys.... Im hopeless with electrics at the best of times so all help is greatly appreciated.

It's very common / good practice to fuse lighting circuits seperately on each side so that a fault on one side or blown fuse doesn't
affect the other side and leave you with no lights.
Not something as simple as a poor connection or wire been missed when making new connections?

My guess would be that you old headlights were wired in such a way that they worked the n/s from the supply to the o/s. and the fault elcewhere went
unnoticed. My thought would be a switching fault. what head light switch are you using? How many terminals does it have? and is it single pole or twin
pole?

Panic averted!!!!
Ive just fixed it, went back ober everything from last nights late workings and couldnt believe i had been such a numpty!
Last night when i went under the dash to get to the fuses i popped the cover off the fuse box and unknown to me a fuse had fallen out onto the floor.
I checked all fuses and they were fine, but that was because the blown fuse wasnt in the fuse box. Found it today when removing all the stuff from the
footwell to get better access.
Popped a new fuse in and were all good now.
Oh happy days!!! Cheers for the suggestions and help tho guys.
