Racetech Rev Counter

Trying to fit a old type 8k Racetech Rev counter to my xflow powered striker but not having much luck. Managed to get it wired up and gone through the initial set up procedure were you set the number of cylinders by holding down a button on the end of a wire that runs from the back of the gauge (it also has a toggle switch that resets the max revs used). When I start the engine the rev counter needle moves but it does not match the number of revs. When then engine is ticking over the needle is pointing at 4k so not sure where I've gone wrong. Tried going through the set up procedure a number of times with the same result. Anyone got any idea's.
Cheers
Chris
