pinto starter wiring help please

Hi All.

Just fitting a Lucas starter to a Pinto engine, as I have swapped engines and starters I am struggling a bit.

The Lucas starter has a main terminal for the battery feed there is a terminal that goes from the solenoid to the starter. So no issue with these 2 . There are then 2 smaller terminals one is a spade connection which I am fairly certain is the ign switch feed and then a small threaded terminal ?? this is the one that I need the help with. When I had it all apart this terminal has a small copper tongue inside the solenoid which pushes on a very thin wire on the body of the solenoid when it is put back together. Any thoughts please ?

Thanks for looking.

It sounds like that is the ballast resistor coil feed, live when the starter is cranking. It may not be needed if you aren't using a ballast resistor ignition coil

Thanks. Did have a thought about that, sounds right to me . I don't bother with one, so will just cap it so that it does not get water in etc. Just tried the starter motor, as I have rebuilt it and done a service on the solenoid , and it works fine not using the odd terminal.

Thanks again for your reply.
