Jaguar XF reversing/tow hitch camera
Want to fit a reversing camera on a Jaguar XF to make coupling up the tow hitch easier.
According to the Jag forums it cannot be done!!
I like a challenge but I'm not up to canbus anyone know how to do it?
The OEM camera and wiring loom are readily available on ebay there are 2 connections - the video and the canbus.
Some other forums say it has to be programmed, others not - surely the bus address will be standard or is there more to it than that?
Words of wisdom gratefully received as its £100 for the bits and I dont want to waste it!
Cheers!

On to standard OE screen? i suspect like most things canbus it will be a software item you need to have updated/downloaded.
As I recall even something as simple as activating a trip computer on my C30 was a dealer only software upgrade - the parts were all there from the
facotry, but was impossible for the DIYer (without complex software hacking experience) to do the upgrade.

I can not speak for the Jag but Audi use something called 'component protection' Items have serial numbers the main control unit will only
talk to serial numbers that it knows is allowed . Protected items that need to be replaced Need the Car needs to be hooked upto the Audi mainframe
'USUALLY' meaning a visit to the main dealer !!
Suspect Jag have jumped on this 'Cash Cow' and charging the customer an Hours labour for something that takes 5 minutes ! to fit the
overpriced part that you have picked up from the 'Stores Man'

Thanks chaps,
Yes thats how I understand it to be. Jaguar however go further in saying it is impossible to retrofit, even by dealers, although they sell the
parts!
A contributor in another forum claims to have done it though using second hand parts - unfortunately he was banned from the forum for being over
aggressive before I could ask him exactly how !!
I just wonder if any locosters have direct experience hacking canbus?
Cheers!

its not just Upgrades.
My A6 4f Audi service history from day 1
A recall for the rear wash wipe screen wash pipe should have been done as part of this and it was not.
Scroll forward 5 years and me buying the Car, the pipe is now leaking over the sound system amp in the and meaning that it does not switch itself of
and flattening the battery every 5 minutes.
Audi not interested and want £600 for a new amp and £150 to code it to the car !! Ps they will not re-code second hand items because they are all
'Pinched' !!!.
the fella who has been banned have you searched googled for his username ( he may have used this on other Forums ? - I use mine on multiple forums
Apart from the one about knitting !! )

Not an answer to your question, but I bought a wireless camera, receiver and 7" screen for £46. The camera mounts under/over the number plate
and the screeen has a succy-plopper to screen mount.

the OEM camera in the Jag XF works very well with a towbar, I can place the tow hook right under the trailer hitch....but that doesn't help
either. I don't know the answer to your question except to say it is possible to retrofit on RRS which is a similar era to the XF

Sounds about right. I had a nightmare trying to retro fit factory stuff back in the day.
I would suggest buying a good reverse camera kit not from jag ans go from there.
Thinking outside the box a go pro camera has bluetooth link to your phone. Set that up and you get a camera for trackdays aswell.
Thinking outside the box again. How about you get out and look or learn how to reverse properly. I have never had issues!!!!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!
