Frustration!

After spending 1/2 Sat doing away with my pressure switch on the brake lights and fitting a mech' switch. A quick job that took for ever... and then the high level light had failed as well. So a 15 mile round trip to Maplin for a new one and fitted this morning.

So as that went so easily...

Spent the rest (most) of today sorting dash oil level (not pressure) warning light that's bugged me since I built it. Got a plan to put a relay in triggered by the handbrake light circuit so it'll only read when h/brake is on. See this previous THREAD (notice I've completely ignored the poll result)

So dash out, check wiring diagram, fit the relay, quick check, dash back, check again... bleeping light is flashing! It should be on or off, not flashing. Search the Yam' manual and if it detects either open (which I've just created) or short circuit it flashes. Another look at the wiring and it shows a simple switch, testing shows 500ohm resistance when it should be open circuit... so not a simple switch. Trip to Maplins (again) and handful (always good to have spares) of resistors for a quid. Back to the workshop and stick one in circuit and it works. Bit of reading and a 500ohm resistor will sort the fuel level warning thats been taped over, so that's sorted. Dash back in, check everything works... better start it up and check again, looking good...put the lights on and volt meter drops and and oil temp goes up. What the f...!

Must have messed up an earth somewhere so it's dash out again to find it.

We have all had days, sometimes weeks or more like this! Time for a beer and a look again with a fresh pair of eyes. It will be that obvious thing you have stared at many times!

My sympathies.

I've reworked my dash as well, and feel your pain.

Yeah, I know. Was just venting...

Whats realy annoying, is that I knew 7 years ago when I did the loom that it wasn't a simple switch from RobCollingridges blog... and there's a note with my wiring diagrams

As expected, an earth disconnected to the volt and oil temp guages. 15mins to get the dash out (on the plus side, with practice, I've got quicker at that) and it was (as predicted) staring me in the face.

So thats 3 things off my short term list (of 8-10). The rest need to be done by next Wed but at this rate might take until Xmas.
