starter motor wiring puzzle
Am trying to find info on wiring my starter up. I have a Nissan engine with an ecu. I have purchased my ignition switch and have one of the terminals
labeled for the starter. Now on the starter motor I have the main power lead and one small cable. I presume the small goes to the ignition switch and
power direct to the batter as it has the terminal on the end of the cable.
Is there any idiots guide to this side of it.
thanks people

Sounds like you have bit sussed. Connect the big fat wire to the battery and the small one to the switch, turn the key and see what happens.

As already suggested but it might be worth fitting a relay to take any heavy loads off of the switch

The starter solenoid is a relay.....it should not need a relay to opperate it......modern cars that show relays in the cct are almost start inhibit
relays used with immobiliser systems.

Starter soleniod has quite a big draw. Technically you could call it a relay but it's a fecking big one. Triggering it with a relay reduces the
current through the ignition switch and will reduce the chance if burnt terminals. Whether that outweighs the extra complexity... ?

Not counting the initial spike the solenoid draws around 10A.

Burnt out ignition switches are fairly common due to the initial heavy current drawn by the solenoid.
