has anyone fitted dim dip headlights?!

Just having a major panic. I've heard of dimp dip before, but never thought about what it means
I have led side lights (seperate to the headlights. Could wire them as drl?), and 90mm hella headlights, which have a single H7 bulb with a flap to make them dip.
I never actually knew that dim headlights come on with the first click of the headliggt switch too, since 1987.
Do I need them?! Starting to worry about how that'll work now

The dim dip principle was short lived. My 86 escort had them. as did my 90 nova, but my 92 nova didnt.
When side lights were turned on with ign off, you got regular 5w sides (seperate bulbs), when the ignition was on the dipped head lights would light about 50% brightness. It just gave a slightly brighter side light.

My '88 cav sri130 had them, pain in the arse when the dim dip relay buggered up and left my headlights permanently on!

Luckily once I removed the relay the lights still worked as normal minus dim dip.

Dim dip was a weird sort of idea that sounded good on paper but achieved nothing other than to massively increase the costs to the car using them, if fitted they must work for the MOT and the unit controlling them is VERY expensive. they didn't do much to improve safety other than when the idiots on motorways in poor lighting or heavy rain who think that side lights make them visible to other road users....a simpler idea would to have been to make the use of side lights when moving where lights are needed illegal.....
