Gear indicator only works when the alternator is disconnected, and speedo now doesn't work.
I've had this issue for a while, I've been trying to get to the bottom of it today.
The gear indicator (Acumen DG8) flickers on and off when the throttle is applied, and less often when just idling. The only way to sort this is to run
with the stator disconnected, i.e. running total loss with the battery. Then I get a steady reading in all gears.
I've already put in a new regulator/rectifier, swapped ICUs and coils, and done all the tests for the stator I can find. These check out.
Putting a cheap multimeter across the power for the gear indicator, I get a steady 15V or so. Is this too high? Bearing in mind this stays around this
value when revving up to 5000rpm, so it seems the voltage is being regulated. I had this flickering issue with the old regulator/rectifier and ICU
anyway, so it seems it can't be this?
(Also, the neutral light on the clocks is steady, when the neutral on the Acumen flickers).
The second issue I have is that the speedo doesn't work on the R1 clocks. I removed the speedohealer, still no luck. The speedo used to work
when the gear indicator didn't, so I am thinking that these are two separate problems.
If anyone has any ideas or tests I could do to isolate these two issues, I'd be all ears!

I would say the reason your gear indictor is not working is your overcharging
15v is quite high, my set up is normaly around 13.5v

Where are you picking up your speedo signal? I tried the feed from ECU to clocks and it acted daft but OK using the wire from sensor to ECU.

As a general rule if you get 2 sysytems that are not related inter acting I ould suspect an poor earth connection

Thanks for your help.
When I checked voltage to the acumen I did it with a crocodile clip on the positive and another one on an earth on the chassis, rather than where the
acumen is connected. Stupid really. When I get chance, I'll go down to the garage today and see what happens when I measure the (admittedly high
voltage) properly.
Do poor batteries cause overcharging?
My speedo signal goes straight into the clocks from the sensor (via the speedohealer).
