Fog light question
Hi. As you've probably seen in my previous topic my kit failed it's mot but all sorted apart from the fog light problem. It wasn't
working. I put new bulb in and realised I actually have two fog lights! One working and the other not even with a new bulb in. Im sure legally you
only need one. So could i just put some black tape over the lens as a temporary solution to get it through retestand then sort it afterwards? Ive
only few days to get it sorted for a free retest and a sat morning one is what im hoping for. Cheers - nick

I think you will need to remove it?? at least I would be worried about just using tape.
And which side is working, IIRC it must be central or towards the offside. So if nearside you are stuffed.
You could always bodge on a wire to the working one to join to the non-working. But surely it can only be connections or a damaged wire if the other
is OK.

If the car is on a Q plate you don't need one at all.
From the manual...
b. Vehicles having a Q plate registration when presented for MOT are to
be treated as follows: For emission purposes only, all these types
are to be considered as vehicles first used before 1 August 1975. For
all other testing purposes they are to be considered as being first
used on 1 January 1971,
Also...
This inspection applies to the one rear fog lamp
which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside
of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980.

As a quick fix why not connect the working one to the non working one and disconnect the faulty wiring.
Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

You only need one but it must be central or o/s. Lot's of tin tops have lenses both sides but only wiring and bulb on the o/s.

Well it was the offside one that wasn't working. So I spent an hour and a half getting some wire and connectors and I connected two wires from
the working fog light and out to the non working light. A very fiddly job! And it still didn't work! After a lot of messing around I
discovered the problem! The faulty light had both wires connected to the same connected on the bulb holder!! I swapped a connecter onto the right
part and it worked!!

Only the O/S fog needs to work. The other does not need to work NOR does it need to be removed from the car if it cannot be made to work.

Mind you if it were up to me I would make the use of rear fogs illegal tomorrow I see no overall benefit in their use. As most folks switch them on
at the slightest hint of mist and won't turn them off when someone is behind them.
