Current draw

Afternoon all

Just a quicky

My Libra draws 0.13 amps when tested with the immobiliser on. Is that about right?

130ma is way on the high side unless the battery is oversized , healthy and fully charged you could be looking at starting problems and battery damage after less than 2 weeks lay-up.

Even on modern high end cars with lots of computer systems normally measuring an hour after shutdown I would regard anything over 30 ma as a problem 15 ma or less is more typical.

I'm assuming standby current drain. According to this site it's to high.
http://www.w8ji.com/battery_and_charging_system.htm
About half way down it says "but in no case should "overnight off" leakage exceed 25 mA or so". Your's is 0.13A = 130mA
What's the current drain without the immobiliser connected as they may be another source of leakage.

Ok Thanks.

I thought that might be the case.

I suppose I better start by removing the crapola alarm and test again.

What is the correct way to measure this? I've been leaving my battery disconnected as a precaution and was considering a battery cutoff switch so would be useful to know what the draw is.

Meter set to Amps (mine has a plug for the + lead 10 amp fused). Disconnect the + Lead from the battery and bridge the battery and + lead with the meter.

If you have a cut-off switch measure across the cut-off switch with the cut-off switch off..
