fuel pump running continuously - when hot weather?
Driving home from work yesterday in +25C and stuck in a traffic jam on the m'way when suddenly I could hear what sounded the fuel pump running
continuously... re-started engine with no difference.
The sound stopped after a 4 or 5 mins and then restarted after a minute for around 15mins overall until I got going again and then the pump seemed to
go back to normal. Any idea what is happening to do this? It did not sounds like the pump was running dry and I had 80% full tank.

Tin Top?
Sounds like the lift pump in the tank is on the way out..
Fiddley but usually easy to change..

Silver top fuel pressure is away too high it should be below 2.5 psi

Definitely not the rad fan.. that was running as well :-) and I have a light that shows when this is on... the noise was from behind me and turned off
when the engine was turned off something that the rad fan would not do!

Thanks Chris.. :-) could it be the fuel vaporising in the heat somewhere (pipes / carbs?)?
I guess the pumps are designed to last for years as long as their is petrol going through them to keep act as cooling.
Cheers

Daft suggestion, what ecu, is the fuel pump relay picking up the rad fan signal somewhere along the line?
