ignition timing

afternoon all
having a slight problem setting the ignition timing on my pinto.
2 ltr pinto twin webbers:
couldn't get hold of a points distributor for the engine but managed to get hold of a full ignition system. the very early electronic one. the electronic unit was mounted on an alloy plate on the inner wing a motorcraft unit 83BB 12A199 B3A
dead simple to wire up 2 wires to distributor the other 4 are coil feeds and live feeds... my problem is how do i set the static ignition timing (I'm used to using a bulb that goes out when the points break at the relevant BTDC but this unit works on magnetic pulses
mr haynes manual does not cover this type system
any info gratefully accepted
tony

Make sure that distributor is inserted into block so that therotor arm point towards the small line on the outer edge of distributor when number one cylinder is at T.D.C. on the compression stroke. To check remove spark plug{s} using a spanner on crankshaft pulley bolt rotate engine clockwise with your thumb over no 1 plug hole , you should fell pressure building up , carry on turning crank until T.D.C check distributor mark is aligned. timing should then be close enough to start engine.Use timing light for final adjustment
