help with locost wiring loom with velocity

Hi, we are about to start on the wiring on our velocity.

We were given a big main loom from luego for the car.

If is a loom with a front section, a rear section and a fuest box - pretty standard i think.

anyway, can someone give a step by step guide on how to start please.

the main confussion i have is where to start. We have our own battery cables that go from the starter to the battery, from the battery to the alternator. but im not sure what to do next.

please help.

Thanks,

Plan ahead - so that means from the start pick a decent location for your fusebox/relays.

I put ours on the rear of the scuttle panel (engine side) over towards the battery. Make sure that if you decide to add things later they won't get in the way. Lay out the rear loom down the tunnel and run it around one side (I went offside) to then curl back along the rear panel.

The front loom was laid out along the engine bay 'R' tube.

Both front and rear parts of the loom enter through the top of the tunnel under the dash. The relevant wires go off to the clocks/ switches and the relevant fuses/relays are bolted to the other side of the scuttle as mentioned earlier.

Once you've layed it out its much easier and you can spur off to all the different places you need.

You will have a main live that will need to go to the battery (large diameter - should be fused) All the earths can be attached to chassis points and the battery directly earthed to the chassis too - on the mounting bracket for example. Don't forget to put a decent earth strap from the engine to the chassis too.

sorry if its not much help or stating the obvious.

Cheers

G

we have laid it out in the car so far, and we know where we want the fuse box.

at one end ( fuse box end ) we have a large brown wire and ignition wires. should this be connected to the ingition barrel. the other end of the large thick brown wire ? should this be the battery?

main loom scares me. EFi - no problem. easy. its the starting from scratch that worries me.

To be honest I hav'nt seen a luego loom, only the premier wiring one. Things will be dependant on the colour identification used. If they have stuck to the ford wiring colours then all browns will be earths. You should'nt really have a need to connect them directly up to the battery [-] terminal. Ignition lives for the standard sierra column are yellow and black/yellow tracer.

If I could see it I would possibly be able to point you in the right direction straight away & the rest would fall into place - Frustrating!

no, i dont think they do follow the standard sierra colours as i definitly know that the big brown wire ( im talking fairly heavy duty here ) is the feed from battery to ignition barrel, an the from there, the ignition feeds from the barrel ( which are black and yellow on teh car ) go to two white wires on the new loom.

the instructions are just not bloody clear. they presume you know too much about electrics.
