MX5 Alternator
Hello,
A friend it putting a alternator from an MX5 (think they are called Miata or somthing like in other markets) in to his car. We have a service manula
but it has no diagrams.
The alternator has a large lug for the positive and then 2 other terminals which are called Term L and Term S
The section that talks about testing the alternator suggests:
Term L should be
0v with ign. off
c.1v with ignition on
c.12v with ignition on and motor running
Terminal is should be
0v with ign. off
c.12v with ignition on
c.12v with ignition on and motor running
Can any one tell me what we do with these wires?
Cheers Blair

I have the MX5/Eunos/Miata engine in my ST car - see my photo archive.
The connections are pretty much as standard and the links above will get the unit working. Mine charges fine.
However - I can't get the dash charge light to work! I read in a MX5 manual that the alternator drives the light using some electronics within
the alternator and can signal alternator faults via the light. The charge light in an MX5/Eunos/Miata is also wired in series with a diode and
parallel with a resistor.
I guess if I had used the Mazda dash unit complete with lights I would have no problems but I'm stuck with the charge light problem and have
disconnected it as I seemed to be getting a fast discharge with it connected and the motor not running.
If you have any info' or can help I would appreciate it.
PS; the Mazda motor is a beaut' I have the 1.6.
