Front indicators/indicators on stalks/bike indicators
As you all know the front indicators are required to be within 400mm from the side of the vehicle to pass SVA.
I know of 3 places to mount the fron indicators
1. Under headlight ala Caterham
2. On wheel arches
3. On nose cone using stalks similar to motor bike indicators
I decided to go down route 3 and bought some stalk mounted indicators and have extended them even further to bring them into the zone.
However, these indicators have 10W bulbs in them. When testing the hazard warning lights they falshed at the require 60-120 flashes per minute.
However when testing each side the falshed at over 120 flashes per minute. I tracked the problem down to the bulbs as I tested some other indicators
that had 21W bulbs in them and everything was as it should be.
I then began hunting for some 21W bulbs of identical dimension to the 10W bulbs so they would fit in the housings. 4 weeks later I have done it, and
have cured my indicator problem. However I am now using 23W bulbs which measure around 35mm long have a glass diameter of around 18mm and a metal
diameter of around 15mm and have the markings 12v 23w BA15s G18.
Just thought that if somebody else has a similar problem they can refer to this. And if anybody is in the same situation and needs to try or buy some
very small 23W bulbs, Ive bought a box of 10, am using 2 so have 8 spare. U2U or email me if you need some.

Probably irrelavent now but you could have put a resistor in parallel with the 10w bulbs to make the flashing rate ok. This is a common dodge when
fitting LED indicators - the alternative being to fit an electronic flasher unit in place of the conventional one.

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box

I had the same problem a few months back, and fixed it in the same way. According to the man in the local bike shop, most of these after-market
indicators come with 23W bulbs now (but there are enough that don't to really catch you out).
One recommendation - keep a spare bulb or two handy as you can't guarantee there being a bike shop handy when you need a replacement, and
general car parts suppliers such as Halfords don't know that these exist.
cheers,
David
