Any Thatcham installers here?

I have had an offer of a low insurance deal if I have a Thatcham immobiliser fitted.
I am an Electrician and I wired my car in the correct lucas colours and everything works as it should.
I know it is cheeky but I can buy and fit a Thatcham alarm from Feebay but I need the approval certificate done correctly for my insurance.
Will any fitter do or must they be on an approved list?
Is there anyone here who are willing to either certificate it or fit the unit?

If you fit the unit yourself, and take the car to an approved installer, they can inspect the installation, and issue a certificate if it complies.

the last time i had one done, it cost about £30.

.

Out of interest, what is involved in fitting a Thatcham alarm? It might be a good idea for me to install as I'm finishing off my wiring at the moment.

I have seen some Gemini, sterling or toad immobilisers from £35-45.
As long as it is thatcham, my insurance will accept it.
I can install any immobiliser/alarm, but it is the certificate that I need for the insurance company.
Three I am looking at:

Just fitted mine
It requires disabling two circuits. I used the feed to my engine relays and my starter motor.
All of the cables are black with coloured markers. These are removed during fitting.
I opened the loom up and located my ign feed to my relays and the starter signal wire. I cut back about a foot so that they cannot be joined or hot wired. The control box wiring was linked to these two circuits and I soldered/heatshrinked them.
You will need to locate the led and an induction loop (usually around your ign key under the panel) You will need to connect a perm live, ign live and 2 seperate earth points.
Afterwards I re-wrapped the loom and spiral wrapped it. The idea is to make everything blend into the loom to make it difficult to hotwire.
You would not be able to find mine in a hurry !

A full alarm system is pretty useless IMHO as nobody seems to take the slightest notice of them anyway now days. An immobilisor would be my choice, but with a remote control for arming & disarming - maybe even remote starting too

Any recommendations?

Hope you have deep pockets. Cat 1 thatcham with remote start are pretty expensive. The only way you can do this is buy an alarm and turn the sounder off if you don't like the noise.

Sounds like the same setup as my Toad Powerkey immobiliser which I am about to wire up.

What have you done with the yellow wire, which I think gets connected to the door switch in a tintop? Do you just leave this disconnected?

I guess the wire coming from the ignition switch tells it to start searching for the keyfob.
