lights
ok wiring up the dash and finishing off the loom now i have all bits i needed from donnington.
my headlights have seperate bulbs for dip and beam, would it be ok to leave the dip on when i turn on beam, relays and switches all up to the job.
sva and mot ok or not

IIRC it is ok to have dip remain on when main is on - many cars are wired this way.

are you sure there? Most cars ive had leave dip on for flashing but not with perminant full beam. That might just be to save bulb life, but it rings a
bell somewhere...

Would put extra strain on the Earth wire as I think they share the same.

Yes it would you'd need an earth wire capable of handling around 10 amps per side continuous for a 55/60 watt dip/full beam bulb. Also there
could be a heat problem with 2 filaments burning especially if it's in a plastic case.

there is 3x earth, dip beam and indicator, i just wondered about if both could be on for sva/mot, just means i'll see more when its dark

IIRC the SVA manual states that in a single casing which houses main and mip beam - dip must extinguish when main beam is active unless on a
'flash' control. Most bike wiring uses a common earth from the casing and IMHO would be unnecessary as the beam patterns are different.
This combined with the extra heat generated from effectively having two bulbs per casing illuminated for no significant gain is unwise IMO.

bacause i'm sad and have to much time on my hands i've just checked my own car and both bulbs are lit when you turn on beam

spoken to martin at nots sva who had a quick chat with someone else and came back with yes from what you are telling me (or words to that efect) that
will be fine wired up like that
