Temp Sender

Car built and waiting for my SVA on June 6th. I seem to have only one problem at moment, it concerns temp reading. I have 1600 Crossflow and Smiths Temp gauge (ex Triumph). Does anyone know what colour sender I need. Have tried green one and yellow one but am getting incorrect reading. As soon as engine gets anywhere near temperature the needle is off the gauge.

Any help gratefully received.

They are incompatable,if the needle shoots up on switching on as oposed to creeping up slowly it runs at a different voltage, have you got a voltage staberliser?
if not ,try various resisters in circuit that may bring the reading down

Yeah, we got a cheap £2 gauge from Newark last year, and tried using resistors to get a reading with the stock sender, but no joy. Gave up and got a CAI gauge and sender from Demon Tweeks in the end. Cost a few beer tokens but works a treat.
