Ignition light.

Can anyone help.
My ignition light does not come on.My alternator is ok,battery shows 12.5 with ignition swiched on,circa 13/14 when running stays constant on reving and also the same when all lights etc on. I have a bright six unit , have swapped ignition for another and lights up so not faulty "bulb." Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to look for problem,I have take scuttle off and all wireing seems ok.
Many thanks
Mike.

Has it ever worked ?

Ignition works in reverse to the rest and requires a battery feed treating the alternator as earth, so when it goes generates power you get +ve - +ve = light out.

What type of alternator do you have? If it the Lucas type with a block connector with possibly 2 large (red?) wires and a smaller one(blue?) try earthing the blue wire with the ignition on the warning light should operate, if not the fault lies with the feed, wiring or bulb . If it works the fault lies in alternator

Not sure if the Bright Six has any circuitry around the alternator led but you might try using a conventional bulb to eliminate that side. Also have you checked the polarity of the led?

[ALT]----[BULB]---[SWITCHED+12v]

Sometimes an led 'bulb' confuses the alternator signal and you need a filament bulb

The bright 6 has the necessary mods to allow an led to function correctly. Mine works with no problem.

Rusty Nuts solution is the way forward, work through and eliminate each component in turn.

Thanks Rusty Nuts, did as you said and found problem. When I built the car I had to extend the loom by approx 12 ins to reach the alternator.I cut the original loom and put a piece in using connectors, when I tested as you suggested at the alternator plug the ignition light did not come on, but when I separated the extension piece and retried it was OK.Both end connectors appeared OK and it must be a broken wire inbetween. Problem now fixed. Many thanks
