Rev Limiter for Launch Control
Hi All
I'm thinking of using a rev limiter as a basic launch control system, i.e. to simply limit revs when pulling away from the start line. The
Emerald ECU has an inbuilt rev limiter for general use but I was going to add an additional rev limiter set at a predefined lower point purely to
restrict revs when pulling away – it would then be switched off for the rest of my run.
Two questions –
How do these units actually work – do they just cut the live feed to the coils (or the ECU activated earth)?
What happens if they are switched off when the engine is running?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Has the Emerald got a launch control function ?
My Vems DIY jobbie has launh control I belive, give the unit a 12v feed on one of the pins and launch control is activated.
Set the launch RPM and the engine should only rev to that point and no further - Suspect on my unit the RPM limit is controlled by trimming the
Fuel.

I have a microdynamics rev limiter/launch control.
It uses a clutch switch and/or a button to control it.
Once your engine max revs are set e.g. 7000 rpm, anytime you are above half the max revs i.e. 3500 rpm, I can do shifts without removing my foot from
the throttle.
If I want to set the limit manually, basically you rev your engine to where you want your maximum rev limit to be, say 5000 rpm and hold the switch
in.
Basically you can change gear again without lifting off the throttle and without destroying the engine.
Although I have this, unless you are doing standing race starts, it is pretty pointless on the road.
Saying that, my next R1 project is being fitted with a trickshifter, which gives clutchless up and down shifts (with blip option).
I think that clutchless shifts are of more use and will enable mid-corner gearchanges.
Do that in a CEC and you are off the track!!!

Agriv8 - the Emearld launch control function has been imminent for a while :-). It would be great if this was available now but I'm not sure
it'll be ready for the season's start so I'm looking for another option.
I was thinking of the Omex unit as a basic way of providing a limited rev capaility on the start line - this has to be used with caution as it has no
control over fuelling, hence my preference for Emerald to do something neater!

Dave walker has been letting slip in PPC that he is testing an udated version.
Dont know how well it works but hope to find out soon.
