Simple explanation of ignition circuit please

Hi All

I'm after an idiot's guide to what connects where on the LT engine electrics for a RV8. I have a Lucas electronic dizzy with two wires coming from the amplifier, a coil, a ballast resistor, two wires on the loom marked coil, one to 'coil +' and one marked 'tacho'. A 'this connects to that' guide would be a huge help if anyone has the information to hand.

Thank you
Simon

It will depend on which distributor you have fitted - the numbers are on the side of the body.

Sounds like you have the 35DE8 in which case, this is the wiring diagram you need

Thanks for that - unfortunately I don't have the Lucas ballast, just a simple in-line Mallory ballast resistor. My dizzy has two leads, one white, and one white with a black tracer.

Once again, any help gratefully received !!

If you're still not sure, I can go outside and take a couple of photos??

Mine is a 3.9 with 35DLM8 dizzy: it has the amplifier on the side of the dizzy. If you're running the original 4CU EFI system, you'll need to plug one of the wires into the ECU, as thats the only thing that tells it to inject fuel...

Lemme know if you need more info.

Ed.
