Cant help you with the wiring but the answer to "do I need a Power Commander" is YES, to optimise fuel/air mixtures.

You can download the manual from here. It should have the wiring diagram as well (if not I can email if you U2U me your address)

I have a power commander on mine but that was only to get through the SVA emissions test. You can download different maps but as stated you will need a rolling road (and someone with the tech ability) to tune it properly

When considering whether to fit a Power Commander or not, remember that the engines breathing has been altered by fitting the engine into a BEC and as such, it may need the air/fuel ratios mapped accordingly to prevent any long term damage.

Our engine was running lean prior to getting the power commander fitted and set-up on a rolling road. Once done, it did increase bhp and torque slightly but more importantly for us, it made the car more driveable and gives it a much more linear power delivery all the way through the rev range.

You can download maps free of charge to your Power Commander but to get the optimum from your engine in a BEC application, it will need setting up with a custom map on a rolling road.
